Clear.ly Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 September 2026This policy describes Clear.ly 1.0.0 for iOS and iPadOS, operated by Eponymical Games Ltd, 86–90 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NE, United Kingdom. Contact: direct@eponymicalgames.com.
Your diary and questionnaire
Your writing, topic selections, feelings, discomfort ratings and questionnaire answers remain on your device. We do not upload or analyze them on a server. Journal and questionnaire files use iOS file protection and are excluded from cloud backup. Questionnaire answers are erased when you finish or skip onboarding. Diary entries remain until you delete them or delete the app.
No account, cloud sync, payment processing or email sign-up is included in this release. If you used an earlier beta to save an email notification request, it stays local and is never transmitted by this version. You can remove it in Settings → Saved beta request.
Privacy choices
On first launch, Clear.ly asks whether you want to allow optional usage analytics. You can allow it or continue without it; the workbooks and diary work either way. Your choice is saved on your device. The Google Analytics SDK is initialized only after you explicitly allow analytics. No external consent service or advertising SDK is loaded to present this choice.
You can change your choice at any time through Settings → Allow usage analytics.
Optional usage analytics
Only when you explicitly allow it, Google Analytics for Firebase receives limited app-usage events, such as opening the workbook list and moving between questionnaire steps. These events contain opaque screen identifiers, counts and durations, never your answers, selected topic, ratings or writing.
Google Analytics also processes a randomly assigned app-instance identifier, app lifecycle events, app and device information (such as version, operating system and language), and approximate region inferred by Google from the device’s IP address. These data help us understand app usage and improve reliability. The Firebase Installations component also sends technical diagnostic information for analytics; its privacy declaration identifies this data as not linked to your identity and not used for tracking. The identifier relates events to the same app installation; we do not associate it with your name, email or an account.
Usage analytics stays off until you explicitly opt in, in every region. Turning it off in Settings stops future events and resets the local analytics identifier; it does not automatically erase reports already processed by Google.
We do not collect IDFA or IDFV, enable advertising personalization, request ads, or send diary information to Meta. This version does not contain the Meta advertising SDK.
Providers and retention
Google provides Google Analytics for Firebase. Google may process service data outside your country under its applicable data protection terms and safeguards. See Google’s Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy and security information.
Local diary information is kept until you remove it. Analytics event and installation data are retained under the configured Google Analytics retention period; aggregate reports can be kept for longer. We keep support correspondence only as long as needed to respond and satisfy applicable recordkeeping obligations.
Your choices and rights
You can delete individual diary entries in My diary, erase local app data by deleting the app, withdraw analytics permission in Settings. Because we do not receive your diary, we cannot retrieve or delete it remotely.
For questions or requests to access, correct or delete information that we hold, contact direct@eponymicalgames.com. We may need information to identify the relevant record without asking for your diary. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, request portability, withdraw consent, and complain to your data protection authority.
Children and changes
Clear.ly is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their personal information. Contact us if you believe this has occurred. We will update this page when the app’s data practices change.
